When I started knitting, I rarely wore the projects I made. I started giving them away to anyone who would wear them (the poor souls…), or stashing them away as proof of what I had done. Luckily I’ve moved on from then to create pieces that I can actually wear—this headband, for example.
Not only have headbands had a huge surge in popularity, they are also one of the easiest of all knitting projects. Who wouldn’t love knitting a straight swatch and watching it turn into a wearable knit delight? I know I did.
I also incorporated one of my favourite stitches into this simple pattern: the seed stitch. It adds texture and interest to the headband while providing a little extra warmth. The seed stitch is achieved by alternating knits and purls on the first row, and purling the knits and knitting the purls for the remainder of the piece (I hope that made sense). This headband was one of my staples during late fall/early winter, although I would switch to a heavier yarn and gauge for a winter headband.
